This house has over 100 years of active History running through it

Built in 1897 by the Coventry family on the slope of the Thaba Nyama mountain range, next to SpioenKop. The house was used as quarters by the Boer Kommando's on Louis Botha's right flank in 1899 during the 118-day siege of Ladysmith from where the Boer defenses in the Tugela ridge were conducted. The basement was being used as an arms stash during the War, and fresh horses were kept for the outriders in the stables.

After the Siege was lifted and Ladysmith relieved, the same house was used as British quarters by Gen.Sir George White.

In and around the house are photos, items etc detailing the epic piece of History this house has carved itself.

Easby B&B is a wonderful place and Tish and her husband Carlos are very friendly hosts. The rooms are very neat with a lot of attention given to detail for a convenient stay. I like the historical background of the house. It is very quiet there and they have friendly dogs. Tish and Carlos serve a delicious breakfast and are available for good advice if you travel around the Bergville area. I would definitely want to come back and stay longer next time.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, then this is the place to stay. It's a beautiful old house with stunning views overlooking the valley to the mountains in the distance. It's old charm will grab you as you drive up the driveway to the house. The owner's, Carlos and Tish Pereira are the perfect hosts who make you feel right at home from the beginning of your stay. The rooms are lovely and the beds very comfy. Carlos is a master at braaing! ( The South African equivalent of cooking out / barbecue. The huge patio has you wanting to curl up on one of the chairs and just gaze out at the breathtaking views. Breakfast is delicious too!! We will most definitely go back. As a matter of interest, they also have a beautiful wedding venue and an old stone chapel that's older than the house! You can also go on a walking trail around the farm which is very safe.

Very welcoming, beautiful surroundings, great breakfast. Wish we could have stayed another day 🙂
